PURPOSE:To accurately measure the strength of ceramic at a high temperature, by fitting a test piece so that its shoulders are supported with bars of circular cross section or the like and by placing heat shielding members near the facing ends of pulling rods. CONSTITUTION:A test piece 3 of ceramic is so fitted on a pair of pulling rods 2a, 2b with universal joints 1a, 1b that the shoulders of the test piece are supported with bars or rollers 4 whose cross section is circular, semicircular or fan-shaped. Heat shielding plates 5 of excellent heat-resisting property are placed near the facing ends of the pulling rods 2a, 2b to protect the rods from damage due to the high temperature of the tested region 3a of the test piece 3. A prescribed creeping test is conducted as the test piece 3 fitted on the pulling rods 2a, 2b is heated and kept at a prescribed temperature.
