The novel antibiotic A-28086 complex containing the factors A, B and D is produced by culturing Streptomyces aureofaciens NRRL 5758 or Streptomyces aureofaciens NRRL 8092 in a culture medium, which contains assimilable sources for carbohydrate, nitrogen and inorganic salts, in submerged aerobic fermentation conditions until these organisms have produced a significant amount of antibiotic activity in the culture medium. The antibiotic is then separated off from the culture medium. The novel antibiotic can be dissociated into the factors A, B and D. These can be converted into the corresponding physiologically tolerated salts. The novel antibiotic can likewise be converted into C2-C6-acyl esters. The novel antibiotic A-28086 complex, the factors A, B and D, the physiologically tolerated salts thereof and also C2-C6-acyl esters thereof are used to increase the feed intake of ruminants. They can additionally be used for the prevention or treatment of coccidiosis in poultry.
