The projectile and the charge can be separately loaded into different carriers in the body of the fiream under the action of a slide actuated by the gases under pressure, and of tappets. The same slide brings the carriers in opposite directions at right angles to the barrel axis from a loading position to a firing one in line with the barrel. The carriers can be sliding or pivoting blocks, or drums sealed to each other and to the barrel and firearm body. The control slide, working in the forwards and backwards directions inside the firearm body, can have curved guide rails, grooves, cams etc to actuate the various other components such as the carriers, the loading mechanism and the firing mechanism.
