MAGNETIC INFORMATION AND CARD READER SYSTEM AND CARD READERFOR READING MAGNETIC-TYPE INFORMATION CARDSAbstract of the DisclosureDisclosed herein is a magnetic information card andcard reader system, as well as a card reader for readinginformation magnetically recorded on a flexible resilientmagnetic card. The system includes a flexible, resilientmagnetic information card having a flexible base layer, a flexibleover layer of nonmagnetic material and a layer of uniformlydistributed magnetic particles of lesser dimensions sealedbetween the base and over layer such that the magnetic particlelayer is spaced from all edges of the card, and a card readerhaving a magnetic reading head for detecting magnetic signalson the magnetic layer. The card reader has a structural portionforming a slot accommodating the information card in a tightbut not binding fit. The structural portion supports the readinghead in a position such that the gap end of the reading headprojects into the slot an appreciable distance. The structuralportion also has a hole forming a relief opposite the readinghead to accommodate the localized region of deformation of thecard which is formed when the card is forced past the readinghead. Also disclosed is a card reader for reading informationmagnetically recorded on a flexible resilient magnetic informationcard. The reader has a slot adapted to receive the card as itis manually inserted into the slot and a magnetic reading headdisposed such that its magnetic gap end extends appreciablyinto one side of the slot. A relief hole is disposed on theother side of the slot and at a point opposite the gap end ofthe reading head, the relief hole having a dimension at leastas great as the reading head in the direction of travel ofthe card.
