Method to avoid spreading of spilled crude oil over the sea in case of tanker accidents

For stemming spilled crude oil, a continuous foam line (1) of virtually open-pored non-rigid foamed plastic having as low a specific gravity as possible and as small a modulus of elasticity as possible is produced. This foam line (1) is continuously produced in a nonwoven according to Figs. 1 and 2 and around a nonwoven apron (2), preferably from a ship, at a speed of 3 - 5 m per minute. The nonwoven apron (2) contains central reinforcing elements (3, 4) in order to prevent the foam line (1) from being torn apart by the forces occurring in a heavy swell. At the same time, the foam line (1) is pulled out of the foaming machine using the reinforcing elements (3, 4). IMAGE
