There extend between two chains (120) arranged at a distance from one another and in parallel, horizontally arranged, rod-shaped drivers (122) which hoist the balls (126, 128) along a rear wall (116) inclined between the hoisting strand (140) and the return strand (144) of the chains (120) from a ball-inlet channel (114) to a passage (130) arranged in the rear wall. As the drivers (122) are rod-shaped and the rear wall (116) is arranged directly adjacent to the return strand (144), only a relatively narrow gap for the balls to roll over is required between the passage (130) and a ball-return channel (138). An arrangement of this type makes possible a compact structure of the ball lift, a passage (130) which can be adjusted in height for the purpose of adaptation to the plant-specific conditions and, seen from plan view, a straight-line direction (112-138) of movement for the balls.
