The railway locomotive for high-speed running has bogie frame resiliently supported by wheel axles, vehicle frame on sprung mounting on these, one or more driven axles and parallel motor with firmly flanged transmission gear, and three-point suspension for motor and gear on vehicle frame. The motor-and-gear assembly (6, 10) is suspended from the bogie frame on the axle side with two pendulum mountings (8, 9). One transversely aligned guide-rod (12) rigidly couples the motor housing (6) to the vehicle frame (13) and another (14) to the bogie frame (4). On straight track the first rod is coupled and the second released, and on curved track the first is released and the second coupled. The construction has min. unsprung mass, and min. inertia moment affecting bogie mounting movement at high speeds.
