The hydrostatic pressure monitor gives a direct read-out and it uses at least one pressure-sensitive semiconductor element, the electrical resistance of which provides a direct indication of the pressure. The pressure-sensitive semiconductor element is combined with a further semiconductor element which is unaffected by the pressure, but which has the same temp/resistance characteristic, to provide zero compensation. Pref. the two semiconductor elements are of N type and P type respectively and are formed in a common GaSb crystal. Both elements are coupled in series to a constant current source.
