The tractor axle construction has a reduction gear at the end adjacent to the wheel and a gearbox connection at the inboard end, with a multi plate brake system arranged inbetween. The betke is arranged in a compact layout with the servo cylinders in the middle, between the normal brakes and the parking brake. Both brake systems are cooled by the same fluid recirculating system. The brake is contained in a housing mounted over athe axle housing. A compact and comparatively simple layout is achieved.
