A motorised drive is provided for a roller shutter, a spring roller blind, a venetian blind or other light screen. A ball chain is used as the power transmission device. The ball chain serves for drawing the blind or screen and passes over sprockets for transmission of energy from the drive unit to the winding spindle or shaft. This is simpler than systems involving cogwheels, flat-member-chains or belts.
