Water-soluble compounds of the general formula (1) see diagramm : EP0012969,P49,F1 wherein Q is the residue of an organic compound having fiber finishing properties, Q containing one or several water-solubilizing groups, A is an alkylene radical of 1 to 6 carbon atoms, or an alkyle radica of 2 to 8 carbon atoms which is interrupted by a phenylene radical, or A is a phenylene radical or a phenylene radical or a phenylene-alkylene radical having 1 to 4 carbon atoms in the alkylene moiety, or an alkylene-phenylene radical having 1 to 4 carbon atoms in the alkylene moiety, R is a hydrogen atom or an alkyl group of 1 to 4 carbon atoms which may be substituted by an aryl radical or by a lower alkoxy, hydroxy, phenoxy or lower alkanoyloxy group, or R is a cycloalkyl radical or an aryl radical, X is the carbonyl or sulfonyl group, Y is a halogen atom and n is an integer of from 1 to 3.
