Dry adsorption of hydrogen chloride and opt. sulphur di:oxide - using porous adsorbent doped with metal oxide and activated and regenerated by heating in inert gas

Dry adsorption of HCl from hot flue gas (from refuse incinerators) at ca. 100-500 (80-250) degrees C, which can also contain SO2, is carried out with an adsorbent (I) which is regenerated thermally. (I) consists of a porous adsorbent (activated charcoal) doped with alkali(ne earth) or heavy metal (Na, Mg, Ca, Mn, Fe and/or Cu) (hydr)oxide(s) by impregnating with an aq. soln. of a salt of the dopant, drying and heating to 300-1000 (500-700) degrees C in an inert gas stream, pref. contg. steam. Regeneration is carried out under the same conditions. If SO2 is to be removed, pref. (I) is also doped with Na, Cr and V. (I) is effective for long periods and can be regenerated easily.
