The use of 1-deamino-8-D-arginine-vasopressin diacetate (I) for (i) increasing the concn. of clotting factor VIII in the blood plasma of healthy blood donors, and (ii) reducing the risk of haemorrhage in patients with a tendency to haemorrhage during operations and tooth extraction, is claimed. Administration of (I) is blood donors at a dose of 0.1-0.5 mu g/kg (I.V.) or 1-2 mu g/kg (intranasal) produces a 75-500% increase in factor VIII concn., thus reducing the cost of factor VIII prodn.
