The compressor has a cylinder (1) with a bolted cylinder head (2), which clamps a valve plate (5) between them and contains the discharge reservoir space (20). A cooling insert (6) is held within the discharge space having a lower section (6a) with open channels (9) forming a continuous passage and an upper section (66) which closes the tops of the channels. The upper section has ribs (11) on its upper face. The inset is fixed to the cylinder by hollow bolts (17) which form connections for cooling water and leave a gap round their circumference within the discharge space for air flow.
