An electrical or optical cable with a plastic cover includes metallic coatings to prevent the ingress of moisture and to prevent the possibility of induced voltage with the metallic coating. The cable sheath is formed by a plastic centre layer (1) coated on both sides by the protective metallic layer (2). Formation of the metallic coating can by electrochemical deposition. The length and breadth of the metallic coating, in relation to the plastic centre layer, is fixed, to ensure that when wound around the cable bundle (6), no possible connection may exist between the coatings. This ensures that no induced voltage may be generated in the outer layer.
