The spherical-plug valve has a fabricated welded housing (S1, 2, B1, 2) contg. a spherical plug (K) with trunnion ends (Z1, 2). The housing comprises two semi-cylindrical shells (S1, 2) with bearing bushes (L1, 2) for the trunnion ends, and annular end walls (B1, 2) with pipe connection ends (R1, 2). Reinforcing ribs (W) may be welded between the end walls (B) and the ends (R). These ribs are pref. taken from the cut-offs left over after cutting the annular end walls from a flat square plate. Rings (D) may be welded on the insides of the end walls to accommodate the seals.
