Adsorption type dryer uses the cold regeneration pressure swing cycle. The moist gas is taken into one of a pair of adsorber beds where the moisture is removed. The dry gas leaves from the other end of the bed. The bed is regenerated by diverting the moist gas to the other bed. The pressure in the bed is then vented and a flow of gas at lower pressure is taken from the product gas stream via a pressure reducing/non-return valve. The outlet side of the beds are controlled entirely by non-return valves and there is only one changeover valve and one pressure reducing valve. Used for drying gases at high pressures esp. 100 to 400 bar. Is of simple construction yet gives minimum usage of gas for the low pressure phase of the cycle by avoiding pressure balancing between the two beds on changeover and with minimal usage if the compressor is shut down.
