The shearing machine consists of an upper part (A) with a piston (7) actuated by a press. The piston (7) exerts pressure on the hydraulic fluid (8) which acts on the large piston (9). The piston (9) acts on the moving blade (4) which has a hole through which the bar (6) is placed. The fixed blades (11) support the bar (5) on each side of the moving blade. The reaction due to the shearing force is taken by the pistons (14) and the hydraulic fluid (15) ensures that the force on each piston is the same. This hydraulic equalisation of the reaction force ensures a clean cut when shearing bars of relatively soft metal.
