The bar (5) is placed in a recess formed in the fixed blade of the shearing machine and projects between the upper (16) and lower parts (18) of the moving blade (15). The upper blade (15) is suspended from a lever (2) mounted on a pivot (3). The other end of the lever carries a second lever (19) mounted on a pivot (20). The end of the lever (19) is pushed downwards by a press. This motion forces the main lever (2) downwards and at the time presses the lower part (18) of the moving blade upwards so that the bar is rigidly clamped during the shearing operation.
