is converted to NO by a thermo catalytic treatment using a catalyst of carbon of low density and large effective specific surface area of =100 m2/g, at 200-300 degrees C and at a gas throughput of max 5 cm3/1 l/min. Method is for measuring the nitrogen oxide concn. in a measuring gas, for example for monitoring the N oxide concn. in waste gases. The conversion of NO2 to NO by =95% and is rapid involving a delay in measurement of only 1 min. Operating temp. is relatively low.
