The pen (f) is fitted with an inner cylinder with an upper extension and a vent pipe (c) opened at the top (a). The lower part of the pen is fitted with a fine tube (e). When the ventilation pipe (c) is inserted into the ink, it blocks off the flow of ink to the tip and prevents drying and clogging, so that the pen does not require cleaning before or after use. The same principle may be applied to other types of pens, and ball point pens.
