A fire-resistant wood based structural material, comprises a first layer formed from a slurry of wood chips, ground bark and a fire retardant chemical and second and third layers each formed from a slurry of individual wood fibres and a fire retardant chemical by heat and pressure, the layers being firmly adhered in the dry state. The material may be used a framing of a fire-rated door to provide a more satisfactory fixing for door furnishings than the conventional wooden frame of limited dimensions. in the door, the stiles 13' comprise the first layer 53 and second and third layers 55 and 56.
