Reducing stresses in concrete due to temp. differences - by incorporating medium which undergoes endothermic phase transition from solid to liq. phase during setting of concrete and then solidifies
In preventing the occurrence of unacceptable stresses in concrete as a result of differences in peripheral and core temp. caused by the hydration reaction, heat is removed from the core of the concrete element by means of a medium introduced through one wall of the concrete, the medium being embedded in the concrete. The medium undergoes an endothermic phase transition on conversion from the solid phase to the liq. phase, and an exothermic phase transition on conversion from the liq. phase to the solid phase. The phase transition occurs mainly in a temp. range where after setting of the concrete and release of the heat of hydration into the environment, the medium returns to the solid phase.
