The diesel engine air starting valve has a main air cylinder supplying air through a valve to the engine cylinder, so that the air supply is continuous. The valve body contains a servo piston supplied with auxiliary air which opens in phase with the crank angle. The auxiliary air comes through an auxiliary valve which is opened by a magnetic circuit connected electrically to the crankshaft by a proximity switch.
