The primary area of application of the invention presented here is the control of street and highway lighting systems when one wishes to accomplish a partial extinguishing of individual lighting fixtures without having to perform the often costly or impossible modifications in the cable system of the layout. Thus far, the technique for economising on illumination in street and highway lighting systems has been simply to extinguish every other light point by unscrewing its pole fuse. Of course, this resulted many times in unsatisfactory illumination during peak traffic periods. The technical problem which the invention solves is seasonal control by night-time disconnection of individual lighting fixtures in a street or highway lighting system. The principle of the invention for solving this problem is daily storing and re-storing 20, in figure 2, of the seasonally varying information such as time between turning on and off for a street or highway lighting system. The automatic self-programming electric circuit with non- volatile memory described here processes the entered information by programming one or more times circuits 30, 40, in figure 3, in a predetermined manner. The time circuits are interconnected with a logic system which controls the load being connected or disconnected according to the status of the time circuits. The memory elements, used are electrolytic coulomb meters, which do not require any power supply to maintain their stored information in the resting state. The technical field to which the invention belongs can be designated H 05 b 39 according to the international patent classification system. IMAGE
