Solid electrolyte for electrochemical cells, esp. high energy batteries for automobiles, is of the type M2SO4-MeSO4 (where M is alakali metal or Ag; and Me is Ag or a divalent metal, esp. Mg, Ca or Zn). The electrolyte may further contain other sulphates and/or halides. It has high conductivity at low temps.
