Surface fastener having inclined spines with downturned tips - to increase hold retention with varying tensional load

A surface fastener for use in articles such as corsetry, belts, and waistbands which are subject to constant tension has a series of loops in one surface which are engaged by multiple pyramidal spines projecting from a second surface at an angle opposed to the direction of the tensional load. The spines are curved downwards at the tips, which make an angle of at least 90 deg. with the direction of the load. The spiney surface is produced in a moulding press, the tips of the spines being subsequently heated and curled by frictional contact with a rotating brush. This prevents the fastener from loosening if the load is relaxed or reverses direction.
