The system uses a processor linked to the machine tool supplied with a main programme and receiving digital parameter values for insertion in the latter via a read/write sub-programme store. The main programme is converted into a language which can be handled by the processor using a system programme contained in a system programme store, between the sub-programme store and the processor. Pref. the sub-programme is also used for algebraic combining of parameters and jumps in the sub-programme are achieved in dependence on comparisons made between digital parameter values. The machine tool may use two coordinate axes, with the machining data entered in polar coordinates and converted into cartesian coordinates using the system programmes.
