The workpieces to be baked are loaded onto pusher plates assembled from tiles. From a loading station, plates are each carried by a pallet on a closed circuit conveyor to the kiln inlet. While plates carry the workpieces through the kiln, the pallets travel along conveyor outside the kiln to the kiln exit, where plates are returned to the pallets and are conveyed to an unloading station. The conveyor pref. consists of a rectangle, the long sides of which are parallel with the longitudinal axis of the kiln. Plates have increased working life when travelling rapidly through the kiln.
