Cheeses are treated in a salt bath in a system which involves transporting them from the forming press to the salt bath, immersing them in the salt bath and then removing them for further treatment elsewhere. A series of cheeses are automatically and sequentially introduced into the salt bath. This is carried by arranging them in a vertical series in a lattice-like set of shelves in a framework which is introduced into the salt bath. Pref. the cheeses enter the shelving system via a charging trough also contg. salt soln. and into which they enter from the press. A large number of cheeses are easily processed and all surfaces are kept immersed.
