New agents in the form of powders, granulates or compressed product (esp. tablets or briquettes) for freeing cells from tissues or from the surface of culture vessels consist of (A) 1-40 wt.% proteolytic enzymes and/or chelate-forming substances and (B) 60-90 wt.% adjuvants, the adjuvants being made up of 0.5-99 wt.% substances which adjust the ion concn. to an isotonic solution and 1-99 wt.% buffer substances. Pref. proteolytic enzymes are trypsin, chymotrypsin, pancreatin, pronase, elastase and collagenase. The pref. chelate-forming substance is disodium edetate. Pref. isotonicity-adjusting adjuvants are NaCl, KCl and glucose. Pref. buffer substances are NaH2PO4, Na2HPO4, KH2PO4, K2HPO4, tris-hydroxymethyl-aminomethane (hydrochloride), 4-(2-hydroxyethyl)-1-piperazineethanesulphonic acid, N-(trishydroxymethyl-methyl)glycine, 2-morpholino-ethane sulphonic acid, 1,4-piperazine-bis-ethanesulphonic. The agents contain agents that exert ancotic pressure (esp. PEG, PVP, methylcellulose or hydroxyethylcellulose) in an amt. of 0.01-2 wt.%. Agents are used for the prodn. of cell suspensions from animal tissues and from tissue cultures. The agents have good stability, and their solid (esp. tablet) form permits the simple preparation of standardised solns.
