Magnetic stirrer for continuous casting plant producing slabs - where slab guide and support rolls carrying electric stirrer currents have protective refractory coating

A metal slab being cast travels between the metal guide and support rolls (2) of a continuous casting track. The molten core of the slab is stirred via eddy currents created by magnetic fields, or by feeding electric current through the slab via some rolls (2). The rolls (2) which are exposed to the eddy currents, or to an electric current, are coated with a material (4) with good electrical conductivity and a m.pt. above the temp. to which the rolls are heated via the eddy- or peak electric-currents. The formation of deposits and/or craters on the rolls (2) which carry stirrer currents is eliminated by coating (4).
