The system is used for cladding internal walls. It has a monolithically formed edge tongue on the visible side, and a groove on the opposite side, together with longitudinal edges sloping back at an acute angle from the visible face, the groove being perpendicular to the top of the sloped area. The cladding panel may be smooth-surfaced. The tongue (8) is formed by an undercut section in one longitudinal edge (6), and the groove (2) by a cutout in the other (7). A slot (20,21) is formed, extending lengthways and parallel to the transverse direction.
