There are two slides on the machine, which slide horizontally and across the fabric, given a reciprocating movement by two cams operated by the main drive shaft. There is a sliding push rod bar moving parallel to the slides, to give a relative cross movement between the needle bar and the fabric. There is a selectively operated lock between the push rod bar and one or the other of the slides, to couple them to give the push rod bar a step slide movement in opposite directions while the needle is withdrawn from the fabric. The push rod bar also has a further lock to prevent it from sliding. The locks are controlled by the pattern mechanism so that each lock is positioned according to the pattern programme. The system allows adjustment of the needle bar or the fabric, so that a wide pattern variation can be introduced in tufted fabrics, under pattern control.
