Heat exchanger with finned tubes - has fins heated and dropped from slider to be shrunk onto tubes (at 15.11.80)

The tubular heat exchanger has square fins (5) shrunk onto tubes (1). A fin is supported on a slider (6) whilst it is heated by a hot plate (3) fitted with an electric heating element (4). When the fin has been heated to 100 deg.C the slider is moved to one side, allowing the fin to drop onto a support (8) which aligns it with the tube (2). A tubular ram (7) then pushes the fin (5) onto the tube. The tube may be cooled by a device (9) to facilitate the fitting of the fins. The support may have a number of slots to receive a number of fins for simultaneous fitting.
