The spark gap forming an overvoltage protector is connected between a telephone line and its support pylon. The first electrode consists of a metal tube (30) flattened at one end (31) and left circular at the other. The flattened part has an axial channel (32) to keep the hollow end at atmospheric pressure. The second electrode (33) consists of a metal rod extending into the circular end of the tube and insulated from it by a support ring (34). An outer sheath seals the rod to the tube.
