Safety system for equipment in explosive atmosphere - uses enclosed housing with regulating outlets, filled with inert gas from gas bottle

The explosion prevention system is designed to prevent self combustion of explosive gases and explosion due to sparks. A piece of equipment such as an electric motor (M) is enclosed by a housing (E) with entries for cables etc. sealed. A bottle (2) of inert gas under pressure, with a valve (D) and nozzle (G) at its outlet, can discharge into the housing through two inlet holes (A, B). A bottom outlet (V) prevents build up of excess pressure. The gas release system is connected with a relay (R) which cuts out the motor (M). The temperature at the gas outlet (O1) from the machine and the temperature of its casing (O2) are monitored. Control and monitoring devices (T, O) outside the housing operate the gas release in the event of excessive temperature increase.
