The heat pump uses air or water as a source. It provides space heating and also domestic hot water. The fluids flowing through various parts of the circuit are taken through stores which provide buffer volume and enable heat exchange to take place between the different fluids. A combined store unit has several compartments with partitions which allow heat to pass from any compartment to any other. The unit can be constructed for mounting on a roof in combination with a solar energy collector or for burial in the earth for thermal insulation.
