Topical compsns. with cicatrising activity - contg. bilberry vaccinium myrtillus extract with high anthocyanoside content

New pharmaceutical prepns. for external use contain a bilberry (vaccinium myrtillus) extract as active substance. Bilberry extracts with a high anthocyanoside content exert a good circatising effect with practically no toxic side effects. They can therefore be used in human and veterinary medicine (esp. in dermatology, stomatology and phlebology) in the treatment of eg. scurf, burns, traumatic wounds, operation wounds, ulcus cruri, etc. The extract used pref. contains Ca 34-36% anthocyanoside. The formulation pref. has a pH of ca 3-5, and preferably contains a stabiliser (pref. Na2SO3 or NaHSO3) and less than 45% water. The bilberry extract content of the formulation is pref. 0.1-5 wt.% Pref. formulations are ointments, gels, dentifrices, lotions and aerosols.
