Automatic conveyor loading of side access wagons - uses position transducers and previously stored wagon dimensions and position data to position articulated conveyors

The loading of sacks in a covered wagon with side access is automated by a vehicle mounted set of articulated conveyors which carry a loading head (19) moving parallel to the longitudinal axis of the wagon, and also moving vertically to stack one layer of sacks (10) above the other. The loading head (19) is pivoted (26) on a telescopic conveyor (23) pivoted (25) on a swinging conveyor arm (22), which is in turn pivoted (24) on a conveyor (21) fixed to the vehicle (13). The position of the loading head is controlled by electric motors setting relative angles (alpha,beta) and telescopic extension (gamma) in accordance with prestored data on dimensions and orientation of loading system and wagon, using position and velocity transducers to provide necessary feedback data. Relative position transducers provide correction data relative to the of operation.
