The device for handling tubes, cylinders etc., is a wheeled trolley (1) with a drive which enables the tubes (15) to be raised and lowered to required positions. The tubes are placed in the loops of two belts (9) which are attached to a fixed point (12) at the front of the carriage and pass overpulleys (7) each side of two uprights (4) of the frame of the carriage. The other ends of the belts are attached to collars (11) which are attached to the bottoms of the uprights. The pulleys are mounted on carriages (5) with rollers (6) which travel against the uprights. These carriages are attached to a cross member attached to the top of an oil filled cylinder (16). This is controlled by compressed air from a cylinder (17) also carried by the trolley so that when the carriages are raised and lowered, the belt loops are varied, lifting or lowering the tubes.
