PURPOSE:To contemplate effective utilization of sensible heat of a produced gas, by supplying a small lump coke from the furnace shoulder of a slag tapping low-shaft furnace, and blowing coke and air and/or oxygen through a tuyere into the furnace to gasify coke. CONSTITUTION:A small lump coke and converter slag are charged from an upper charging port 3 into a furnace 1, said upper charging port 3 being provided on the furnace shoulder of the slag tapping low-shaft furnace 1 having a heat exchanger 2 incorporated into the top part of the shaft furnace 1. Powdered coke or pulverized coal and air and/or oxygen are supplied from a lower charging port 4 provided at a tuyere to the furnace to gasify the charged coke.
