NEW MATERIAL:The asymmetric carboxylic acid amide of formulaI[R is alkenyl or halogen-substituted alkenyl; X is alkyl or (substituted) aralkyl; Ar is (substituted) aryl; the carboxylic acid component and the amine component are optically active]. EXAMPLE:(+)-trans-Chrysanthemumic aicd (+)-1-(alpha-naphthyl)ethylamide. USE:Stationary phase of gas chromatography effective for the separation of enantiomers. Effective for the separation and determination of the enantiomer mixture of a compound having -NH-, -CONH-, -OH, -CN, or -COO- groups bonded to asymmetric carbon atom. PROCESS:The compound of formulaIis prepared by reacting the optically active (+)- or (-)-carboxylic acid of formula II with the optically active (+)- or (-)- amine of formula III.
