PURPOSE:To provide the titled lubricating oil which has excellent lubricating performance and does not cause surface contamination, e.g., carbon contamination in an annealing stage, containing an aliph. acid ester of 3-methylpentane-1,3,5-triol and a mineral oil as main components. CONSTITUTION:A lubricating oil contains an aliph. acid ester of 3-methylepentane- 1,3,5-triol and a mineral oil as main components, and optionally an extreme pressure additive such as an alkyl phosphate or dibenzyl disulfide, an antioxidant such as 2,6-di-tert-butylphenol, an oil burning inhibitor such as an alkenylsuccinimide and an emulsifier such as a polyoxyalkylene ester; As said aliph. acid ester of 3-methyl- pentane-1,3,5-triol, an aliph. acid monoester is particularly preferred. Examples of the aliph. acids are lauric acid, myristic acid, palmitic acid and oleic acid.
