Cloning vectors, recombinant DNA molecules and Bacillus hosts transformed with them which express foreign DNA sequences and produce at least a portion of the amino acid sequences coded for by the foreign DNA sequences. The cloning vectors, recombinant DNA molecules Bacillus hosts transformed with them and methods of this invention are characterized in that they permit the cloning and expression of foreign DNA sequences, particularly those of eukaryotic and viral origin, in Bacillus hosts. In Bacillus hosts compatible with the recombinant DNA molecules of this invention, polypeptides useful in vaccines, pharmaceutical products and industrial products are produced.
