In the method the inlay is inserted between two rods 10 and 11, so that the middle section of the inlay is located between the said rods. The two rods 10 and 11 are then rotated about an axis running parallel to their longitudinal direction. During this rotation the parts of the inlay protruding to the side of the middle section are guided by means of top and bottom plate 6, 7, so that the inlay acquires a broadly S-shaped cross-section. The tick is then drawn up on to the plates 6 and 7, and the rods 10 and 11 are rotated back to the normal flat state of the inlay. Secure guiding is achieved, especially of the corners of the inlay, which is inserted in the bottom corners of the tick. The apparatus has two rods 10 and 11, which are cantilevered from a machine stand 1. The rods 10 and 11 are fitted between two plates 6 and 7, which are likewise cantilevered from the machine stand 1. The plates 6 and 7 are arched away from one another (at 8 and 9) to receive the rods 10 and 11. The apparatus furthermore has members 13, 14 and 14 for rotating the rods 10 and 11 about an axis running parallel to their longitudinal axis. IMAGE
