Channels are arranged parallel to each other between the layers of paper in a paper structure reinforced by metal wires. The wires running lengthways are positioned in the channels, the depth and the breadth of which correspond to the dimensions of the wires. The wires are held firmly in the channels between the layers of paper, so that they are not stripped and exposed when the paper structure is cut through. The paper structure is formed by a first layer having a number of ribbons of paper glued to its surface, parallel to each other so as to delimit the channels. The spacing between the first and second layers of paper determines the depth of the channels, and the second layer is attached by an adhesive to the ribbons on the first layer. The reinforced paper structure may have a transversely corrugated layer, with some of the wires contained running lengthways. through the web. Used to produce a wire-reinforced paper structure which may be corrugated or have a corrugated layer inside it, and which can be sheared by blades which have become blunted without risk of the wires being pulled away from the paper.
