METHOD FOR SIMULTANEOUS MEASUREMENTOF BOREHOLE AND FORMATION NEUTRONLIFETIMES EMPLOYING ITERATIVE FITTING(Docket No. - WPC-23)ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSUREThe borehole and earth formations in its vicinityare irradiated with pulsed 14 MEV neutrons. During theinterval between neutron pulses capture gamma radiation ismeasured in at least four, non-overlapping, contiguoustime intervals. A background radiation measurement is alsomade. The background corrected count rate measurementsmade in the at least four time intervals are iterativelyfitted to exponential curves using a least squares techni-que to simultaneously derive borehole component and forma-tion component of the thermal neutron decay time.
