I. AN APPARATUS FOR MEASUREMENT OF MILLIMICROSECOND RADIATIVE LIFETIMES OF GAS-PRASE MOLECULESnKnowledge of radiative lifetimes is valuable for application to problems in thermodynamics of high-temperature systems, kinetics of energy transfer, and electronic structure of molecules. Although measurement of these lifetimes involves working with millimicrosecond times and extremely low signal levels, various methods have been developed and are summarized.nII. THE RADIATIVE LIFETIME OF THE B 0+ STATE OF I2 BY TWO ABSOLUTE ABSORPTION METHODS.nThe lifetime of the level of iodine which combines with the ground state to give rise to the visible-band system is determined to be 5 x 10-7 sec ± 20% from measurements of the integrated hand absorption.
