Zinc content is extracted from iron content, especially complex, zinc sulphide concentrate through the concentrate was autogenously melted with the help of oxygen or oxygen-enriched air and during the addition of acid slag formers for the formation of a silicate slag containing essentially all of the zinc and iron content in the concentrate, after which the silicate slag is treated and reduced for steaming of the zinc out of that in the form of zinc steam from which metallic zinc is extracted. Autogen smelting is properly carried out in a flash smelter furnace of the stationary or rotary type, e.g. a Kaldo Converter, at which the silicate slag formed, can be transferred to a separate slag fuming furnace for completion of the reduction process.IMAGE
